How Much Is It to Start a Netflix Account
Netflix Review 2021
Netflix has the most popular on-demand content than any other streaming service, but it's also the priciest
Published on February 03, 2021
Netflix has ruled the streaming service industry despite new companies, like Disney+, joining the on-demand streaming game.
We don't like the price tag on the monthly subscription of Netflix, but you do get what you pay for.
Let's get into the details to find out if it's the service for you and your family.
Pros
-
Great mix of movies and shows
-
Tons of high-quality originals
-
Easy-to-use interface
Cons
-
No live TV or sports
-
Price on the higher side
How much does Netflix cost?
The price of one or two movie theater tickets
Netflix has three simple plans to choose from: Basic for $8.99, Standard for $13.99, and Premium for $17.99.
And Netflix barely raised its prices, but there's no better price than this to watch hours upon hours of great entertainment. Prepare to find yourself binge-watching more often than not.

The Basic Plan is perfect for the money-savers, but you won't get to watch Money Heist in high definition (HD). And it's also a plan made for one since you can only stream one device at a time.
If you want HD and plan to share an account with your roommate or your significant other, then the Standard plan at is the way to go.
But if the whole family wants to watch their own Netflix movie or show on their device, then the Premium Plan will have your family set.
Also, your Netflix account allows you to create five profiles. So you won't have to worry about getting your child's suggestions of The Croods or Flash getting in the way of your browsing experience.
Netflix Ultra refers to ultra-HD (also called 4K) resolution. Traditional HD starts at 1920x1080 pixels, but ultra-HD has twice that many pixels! Users in the US can get this ultra-HD content with the Premium Netflix plan. If you live in Europe, you can sign up for Netflix Ultra, which costs a little more than Premium.
Can you rent DVDs from Netflix?
We know it's hard for the younger generation to understand . . . but some people out there are still ordering physical DVDs and Blu-ray discs.
Currently, almost three million people are using Netflix's DVD-by-mail rental service.
Maybe grandma and grandpa would like this plan and could choose from a catalog of 100,000 DVD and Blu-ray titles.
Plans range depending on if you want to be able to rent one or two discs at once.

Does Netflix have Spanish-language or international content?
If your mom is obsessed with telenovelas like mine, your mama will love Netflix.
Netflix has a Spanish-language genre, and if you (the daughter or son of the telenovela-loving mother who gets lassoed into watching these shows with her) don't speak Spanish, there are subtitle options.
Some Spanish-language series and movies on Netflix are the following:
- La Reina del Sur
- Silvana Sin Lana
- El Dragón: Return of a Warrior
- All for Love
- Mariposa de Barrio
- La Doña
- Señora Acero
- The House of Flowers
- Made in Mexico
- Nailed It! Mexico
- Elite
- Monarca
Netflix's international content is diverse and unique to an on-demand streaming service. It's also a nice break from American titles if you'd like to venture off and visit other countries virtually.
Here are some popular international titles you can expect on Netflix:
- Unorthodox
- Freud
- Inside the Criminal Mind
- Fauda
- Elite
- Ragnarok
- Toy Boy
- Terrorism Close Calls
Which devices are compatible with Netflix?
Pretty much all devices are compatible with Netflix, as long as you're connected to the internet. Most mobile phones, tablets, smart TVs, and gaming consoles allow you to download the Netflix app.
But remember, you can only stream on one to four devices at a time depending on your plan. Here are a few streaming devices to choose from:
- iPhones and iPads
- Android smartphones and tablets
- Windows smartphones and tablets
- Apple TV
- Chromecast
- Fire TV

Is my internet fast enough to stream Netflix?
Netflix suggests you have at least a 3 Mbps internet connection to stream and 5 Mbps for HD quality while using the app. If you have two simultaneous streams, you will need 10 Mbps for HD quality. (Not sure what internet speed you have? Test it out with our tool.)
If you want uninterrupted streaming, our internet expert, Catherine McNally, has a few internet provider suggestions for you.
Which internet providers are best for Netflix?

How does Netflix work?
Netflix's interface is traditional and easy to use
Open up Netflix, and you'll be welcomed with a user interface that's simple, seamless, and intuitive.
Find your convenient tabs at the top of Home, TV Shows, Movies, New & Popular, My List, and Watch Again.
Scroll down, and you'll find series and movies categorized by Trending Now, Top 10 in the U.S. Today, Comedies, Relentless Crime Dramas, Action Movies, and more.
One feature we love: when you watch a movie, such as The Other Guys, there will be a category on your homepage of Because You Watched The Other Guys. You'll find similar movies like Super Bad and Spenser Confidential (a Netflix original featuring Mark Wahlberg).
We also like the search bar. Netflix won't tell you if a title isn't available, but it will suggest other movies or TV series similar to the one you want.
Recap: Is Netflix worth it?
There's a reason Netflix is the most popular streaming service
Recently, Netflix has seen more competition with Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Disney+, just to name a few. But there is no other on-demand streaming service that is as well-rounded as Netflix.
You'll find great movies and shows, incredible original content, and a sleek interface on Netflix. These are the reasons why it has a high price tag among the rest.
And if you're on a budget but you love Star Wars or Marvel, you're going to have to make a difficult decision between Disney+ and Netflix.
But Netflix is the best option for families, those who love exclusive content, those who love the idea of 5,500 titles to choose from, and those who love to binge-watch.
If this doesn't sound like you or you'd like to see your other options, check out our full review on the best streaming services.
How big is Netflix, really? We did the math.
The longest TV marathon watching session is 94 hours according to Guinness World Records, which honestly, is not that impressive. For those of you who want your name on the hallowed tome that is The Guiness Book of World Records, you can just start watching everything on Netflix right now. You will shatter the current marathon record. It would take you approximately four years, two months, and eight days to watch all of Netflix. Lol.
- If you were streaming 24/7, it would take 4 years 2 months, and 8 days to watch everything on Netflix.
- Watching all of Netflix would equal 256 roundtrips to the moon.
- The average user only watches 2% of the Netflix library in a year.
- Assuming no titles were added or removed and you watched Netflix 24/7, it would cost $662.50 to stay subscribed long enough to watch everything on Netflix.
- Netflix has more unique titles than Hulu and Disney+combined.
Number of Unique Titles on Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+
Streaming Service | Netflix | Hulu | Disney+ |
---|---|---|---|
Number of Unique Titles | 5,491 | 2,657 | 744 |
Conclusion
So, how are the next four years of your life looking? If you've got some free time over the next four years, your old pal Netflix always has your back. You'll never need to watch the same thing twice.
Methodology
We sourced the amount of time it would take to watch all of Netflix's library from What's on Netflix and compared the library size of Netflix in hours to data from Cool Cosmos and Variety.
We determined how much it would cost to stream everything on Netflix by using pricing information for the standard subscription tier. To calculate the number of unique titles on each streaming service, we used data from Kaggle.
To calculate how much the average Netflix user streams in a year, we used data shared by Cindy Holland, a Netflix executive regarding the average number of hours streamed per user per day and compared that information to the total runtime of the Netflix library.
